Fortaleza de São João

The history of the City of Rio de Janeiro, in its origins, is confused with the History of Brazil; It has materialized and perpetuated through its monuments, buildings, and fortresses which were restored and preserved.
On 1 March 1565  Estácio Sá founded in Urca (between the Morro Cara de Cão and Pao de Açucar) the City of Rio de Janeiro. In this same place was the Fortress of São João, consisting of three fortresses (small batteries) and a great fortress, Forte São José, dated back to 1578, the third oldest fortress of the country.

La Storia della Città di Rio de Janeiro, nelle sue origini, è confusa con la Storia del Brasile; si è materializzata ed è perpetuata attraverso i suoi monumenti, forti e costruzioni che furono ripristinati e preservati.
Il 1 marzo 1565 Estácio di Sá fondò, in Urca, fra le Colline Cara de Cão e Pão de Açucar, la Città di Rio de Janeiro. In questo stesso luogo fu elevato il Fortaleza di São João, costituito da tre Fortezze (i piccoli forti chiamati anche Batterie) e da un grande Forte, il Forte São José, risalente al 1578, il terzo più antico forte del paese.
